North guide

Working in North.

Start a task, find finished work, share with your team, and choose what your helper can do.

Start a task

Open Tasks, choose New task, and describe the result you need. Attach relevant files or point your helper to material in Drive. Include the audience, deadline, and preferred format when they matter.

“Compare these two regional sales workbooks. Explain what changed for the sales managers and save an editable summary in Drive.”

Review the result in the task and ask for changes there. Keep revisions in the same task so your helper can use the earlier discussion.

Find and keep your work

Open a delivered result from its card in the task. Use these places to return to saved work or bring it into a later task.

Drive
Open Files for saved documents and media, Tables for business records, and Meetings for saved transcripts and recaps. Ask your helper to save finished files to Drive so you can keep, share, and reuse them.
Apps
Open Apps to use published tools. Meetings is also here: open it to start an online meeting or private in-person transcription.
Memory
Open Memory below your task list to view or edit retained decisions, preferences, and methods. Ask your helper to remember useful guidance, or add an entry yourself.
Can another task use an attached file?

A task attachment stays with that conversation until it is saved to Drive. Save material there when you want your helper to find and use it in later tasks.

What is saved from a meeting?

North keeps transcript text and recaps. Meeting audio and video are not retained. Online notes are initially shared with actual North attendees. In-person notes stay private unless you share them; listing someone as a participant does not give them access.

Share with your team

Each person has their own helper and private task conversations. Use Share on a file, app, table, or Memory entry you own to add people or choose Workspace. Workspace access lets members view and edit the item. Send its link once access is set.

For example, a regional manager can update a shared sales table. Ask your helper to use the current records in the next briefing.

What does sharing an app include?

Check access to the app’s linked files and tables too. Sharing the app does not automatically share all its data or grant another person access to your connected accounts.

Copying a restricted link preserves the item’s current access. Use Share when you want to change who can open it.

Run a Workflow

Ask your helper to turn a repeated task into a Workflow, such as preparing a weekly sales review from selected records. Review its When, Check, and Do descriptions, sources, connected accounts, and output destinations before publishing.

Open your published Workflow in Workflows and use the run action shown. It may start directly, open a task for inputs, or open a linked App. Open the Workflow’s Activity view for runs, saved results, and Helper task handoffs. Inspect a sample before adding a schedule.

What happens after a Helper handoff?

The Workflow finishes its run when the handoff is accepted. Follow the task link to review the Helper’s work, answer questions, or approve actions. The task continues independently; a handoff is not proof that its work is done.

Turning off the Workflow stops its active and future runs, but tasks already handed over continue. Use Stop in the task to interrupt that work. Direct Workflow actions require On permission; publication grants no new access.

Set permissions

Open Permissions below your task list. Choose from the modes available for each action; workspace restrictions may limit those choices. Review approval requests in the task.

On
Let your helper act without asking.
Ask
Approve or decline before the action runs.
Off
Do not allow the action.
Connect an account or save private information

Open Account > Connections to connect services or save private information. Connecting an account and allowing helper actions are separate choices; check its action permissions when setting it up.

Set workspace restrictions as an owner

Open Account > Admin > Settings for service availability and workspace-wide helper restrictions. Members choose their connections and permissions within those boundaries.

Recover earlier or deleted work

Open Version history on supported items to inspect or restore an earlier version. Open Trash from the content listing to recover deleted items you own. Recovery depends on the item; stopping a task does not undo completed work.

A Workflow restored from Trash stays off until its owner reviews and turns it on. Restoring an earlier Workflow version republishes it as a new reviewed version; past runs keep the version they used.
